Do I Need to Lodge a BAS?

What You Need to Know

Do you need to lodge a BAS?

In Australia, all businesses that have registered for GST need to lodge a BAS.

What is a BAS?

A Business Activity Statement (BAS) is a tax reporting instrument required by the Australian Taxation Office. It is issued by the ATO to inform you of your tax obligations and the deadline to lodge. It is issued monthly, quarterly or annually, based on the preference chosen when registering your business for GST.

Your BAS will help your business report and pay the good and services tax (GST), as well as pay as you go (PAYG) instalments, PAYG withholding tax and other types of taxes when applicable.

When do you need to lodge your BAS?

You need to lodge and pay your BAS by the due date displayed on your business activity statement (BAS). (If it falls on a weekend or public holiday, you will have until the next business day.)

A registered BAS agent (like us), gets an extra 4-week concession from the ATO for lodgements and payments. You can benefit from this concession, as we can help you lodge your activity statements.

What happens if you don't lodge your BAS?

The ATO may apply a Failure to lodge (FTL) on time penalty if you have not lodged and paid your BAS by the required date.

How do I lodge my BAS?

We offer a simple, straightforward method for lodging your BAS. Your application can be done in 4 easy steps and it only takes 2 minutes. Click here (or the yellow button below) and fill out the form. Just make sure you use the correct details and submit a copy of your Summary of Income and Expenses. We will then prepare your BAS Lodgement and we will send you a final copy of the submission prior to lodgement for you to sign electronically (e.g. from your phone). Once we receive your signed copy, we will lodge with the ATO.

When we get a notification from the ATO, we will send you a copy of your BAS Lodgement and the corresponding Payment or Refund slip.
